St Augustine’s Celebrates St Francis of Assisi’s Feast Day

Reception class at St Augustine’s Catholic Primary School in Tunbridge Wells celebrated the Feast Day of St Francis of Assisi (4th October) by learning about his love for God’s creation and the importance of caring for the world around us.

The pupils enjoyed spending time outdoors, exploring the school field and taking part in a nature walk. They carefully observed the signs of autumn, listened to the sounds of nature, and talked about the wonderful plants, animals, and habitats that God has provided for us.

Through their activities, they reflected on how they can follow St Francis’ example by showing respect for nature and helping to look after our common home. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn, explore, and appreciate the beauty of God’s world together.

“Start by doing what is necessary, then what is possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible.” – St Francis of Assisi

Year one also celebrated St Thérèse’s Feast Day by learning about “The Little Way” and what it means to do small things with great love. As St Thérèse is often associated with flowers, they created beautiful flower-themed artwork inspired by her life and teachings. The pupils also explored ways of showing kindness and love to others by making thoughtful cards and using small world figures to act out examples of caring and compassion. It was a lovely day of reflection, creativity, and sharing God’s love through our actions.
