The Archdiocese of Southwark, Education Service is looking to recruit a co-ordinator for Catholic Schools Inspections (CSI). The role involves ensuring that the Archdiocesan Education Service supports the Archbishop in fulfilling his canonical obligations to evaluate the quality of Catholic education in Catholic schools in the diocese. The successful candidate will have a good understanding with experience of school inspections in Catholic schools, academies and sixth form colleges. The successful candidate will manage a robust, rigorous, fair, accurate and transparent Catholic School Inspection system.
Background
The Catholic Archdiocese of Southwark comprises 159 schools and colleges across the local authorities of South London as well as Medway and Kent regions. The role of the Education Service is to ensure that every school fulfils its mission as a Catholic school and you will be a valuable member of this team. You will be expected to contribute to the wider work of the team using your expertise in education.
A key element of the work is to liaise with peer colleagues in the South East Hub, being the dioceses of Westminster, Brentwood, Arundel and Brighton and Northampton as well as staff at the Catholic Education Service. Administrative support for the role is provided by experienced colleagues in the education service.

Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Diocesan Schools’ Commissioner, you will be responsible for:
- Recruiting, training and leading the team of Diocesan Catholic School Inspectors
- Ensuring that every school and academy meets their statutory and contractual requirements regarding the regularity of Catholic inspections
- Providing reports on the outcomes of inspections and analysing data to inform the Archbishop and Trustees on the effectiveness of Catholic Education across the diocese.
- Ensuring appropriate policies to support inspections are in place and reviewed on a timely basis
- Ensuring national and local quality assurance is completed and appropriate steps are taken to ensure a high quality of inspection
- Advising the Commissioner on all aspects of CSI outcomes and operations
- Liaising at a local and national level regarding evaluations of the CSI framework
- Establishing effective networks with stakeholders including schools, NBRIA, Ofsted and DfE as required
- Contribute to the work of the service through meetings and training for schools, governing bodies and heads of RE, chaplains etc.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will have the following skills, experiences and qualifications
- Essential – A practising Catholic in full sacramental communion with the Catholic Church
- Essential – Substantial experience of leadership in Catholic education with a good knowledge of the mission and aims of Catholic education
- Essential – Proven successful leadership of an organisation
- Essential – Good IT, literacy and communication skills
- Essential – A strong understanding of the Catholic life, Collective Worship and teaching of RE
- Essential – Experience of school inspection
- Essential – Car owner and full driving licence (extensive travel across the diocese when required is expected to be a part of the role)
- Essential- ability to work on own initiative to a high standard as well as work within and contribute to the aims of the Education Service and Diocesan team.
