Exploring Jesus’ Baptism at St Augustine’s Catholic Primary School

Year 2 children at St Augustine’s Catholic Primary School in Tunbridge Wells have been exploring the story of Jesus’ baptism in the River Jordan. Through their artwork, they learned how this moment marks the beginning of Jesus’ mission and shows God’s love for His Son.

The children looked closely at key symbols in the story — the flowing water, John the Baptist, and the dove representing the Holy Spirit — and used these to inspire their own creative interpretations. Their pieces show how Jesus’ baptism is a moment of peace, promise, and new beginnings.

This project helped the children think about what baptism means in the Christian faith and how artists use colour, shape, and symbolism to tell a story.
