This week, St Francis Class from St Augustine’s Catholic Primary School, Tunbridge Wells has been embracing the spirit of their class saint by learning how to care for the world around them. Inspired by St Francis’ love for nature, the children have been busy helping to look after the birds and tending to our school garden.
The class worked together to fill bird feeders with seed, talking about why it is important to help wildlife—especially during the colder months when food can be harder for birds to find. With great enthusiasm, the children carefully poured and placed the feeders around our outdoor area, excited to see which birds might visit.
Alongside caring for the birds, the children also spent time looking after the plants in the garden. They checked on the pots, explored the new growth, and helped give the plants the attention they need to thrive.
This hands-on learning has sparked wonderful conversations about kindness, responsibility, and the joy of caring for God’s creation—just as St Francis did. Staff are so proud of the care and teamwork the children have shown.
