2021 Year of Mark

Dear Scripture Champions and Influencers,

A copy of our new S. Mark’s Gospel and letter went to your bishop(s) earlier this week.

As you know, the Standing Committee of Bishops’ Conference agreed at its Spring Meeting to take the Godwhospeaks initiative through to the Sunday of the Word in January 2022.  And we sincerely hope that the Scripture Tours and planned events of this year, as well as new initiatives, will be held next year and beyond, COVID-19 permitting.

Copies of our special edition Mark’s Gospel can be ordered here.
Buy in packs of 10 for £15, with discounts on bulk orders.
You can also download the free Fish with Mark poster and our Whistle-stop Tour of Mark’s gospel poster here – https://www.godwhospeaks.uk/the-god-who-speaks/bible-society/

The godwhospeaks.uk website, now distinctly titled ‘The Bible and Catholics’ continues to offer articles, information, educational resources and devotional materials to promote a love of the Scriptures:
‘… the word of God given in sacred Scripture as an inspired testimony to revelation; together with the Church’s living Tradition, [it] constitutes the supreme rule of faith and the primary source of evangelisation.’ as well as presenting ‘in an unmistakeable way, God as the source of all splendour and beauty’
(Directory for Catechesis. 27 & 106).

My request is that this information be circulated throughout your dioceses to parishes and schools. I, on behalf of the planning team and the bishops, am most grateful to you for your energy and enthusiasm to support this initiative. And thank you for promoting the Bible in the lives of the faithful, as the foundation of the pastoral apostolate and as an essential aid to evangelisation.

With every good wish and continued prayers in listening to the Word in your Diocese; and a happy feast of S. Jerome this week,

         + Peter

The Rt. Rev’d Peter M. Brignall

  Bishop of Wrexham
