CPD: Music for Liturgy in RC Schools

Thursday 16th October 2025 , 4-5pm (Online)

Led by Jonathan Schranz, Director of Music for the Archdiocese of Southwark, this online CPD session focuses on the role of music within Roman Catholic liturgy and is aimed at school music leads, RE coordinators, choir leaders and anyone in charge of planning, selecting and delivering music within collective worship in school. The session is targeted towards those with limited experience of liturgical music, offering a broad introduction to the various considerations when preparing and executing liturgical music in schools.

In this session we will explore:

  • The church’s teaching on sacred music
  • Guidance from the Prayer and Liturgy Directory
  • The liturgical year
  • The structure of the Mass
  • Working with your parish priest
  • Moving beyond hymns
  • Music resources and further training opportunities

This is primarily aimed at teachers working in the Archdiocese of Southwark, but others are welcome. Non-Catholics who work in Catholic schools are especially welcome, and individual support and consultation is available after the session by arrangement.
