Black History Month at Holy Ghost Catholic Primary School

Pupils at Holy Ghost Catholic Primary School in Balham, produced ‘Inspirational Prayers,’ about their hopes and achievements for the academic year. This was a good way to show representation and bought about a sense of being seen with the school family.

Holy Ghost Catholic Primary School also participated in the project, ‘Black Presence in Putney,’ where St. Mary’s Church records show Black people during 1600-1800. Pupils had to reimagine their lives. They used Stormzy (the rap artist) as their model and made correlations between his life achievements today alongside the political storm brewing in Putney, ‘The Putney Debates’ (1647).

Stormzy is a Christian, political and represents Black presence today as a significant achiever!

The work will be displayed at St. Mary’s Church, Putney and will be archived to mark this important project.
