On Wednesday 6th May 2026, Bishop Gerard attended St Francis Xavier Catholic Sixth Form College in Clapham to confirm six students. Since January they have taken part in a course of preparation in The Sacraments, The person of Jesus and his hypostatic union, prayer, Catholic Social Teaching , the gifts of the Holy Spirit and sharing the Gospel.
There was also a discussion on choosing Confirmation names. Bishop Gerard noted a theme of faith in the confirmation names such as Job and Paul. During a reception afterwards the students were presented with a book of daily prayer for young Catholics and a silver cross and chain.
