Each year group at St Teresa’s Catholic Primary School in has gone on a pilgrimage walk to mark this special Jubilee year.
Year 3 & 4 children have enjoyed getting ready for their joint pilgrimage walk with the nearest Catholic Primary School, St Peter and Paul in Mitcham earlier this term. With banners made, prayer stones in their pockets and a song in their hearts, they set off on their walk. Each respective church and parish priest hosted the children for a well needed rest (with biscuits and refreshments for the weary pilgrims!).
Year 5 and 6 children went further afield to St John Fisher Church in Merton, joining up with St John Fisher Primary School children for a moving child-led liturgy in Morden Park before heading to each other’s church for a great welcome from their parishioners and a lovely blessing from the parish priests.
The sun was scorching but the children were full of energy, singing hymns as we marched and flying the pilgrim banners they designed, bearing symbols of hope and God’s love.

The last pilgrims are Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, who had r their Teddy Bear Prayer Pilgrimage around the school field on Monday 30th June.
The children made crowns and flags and brought their favorite teddies along for their pilgrimage walk, stopping at teddy bear prayer stations dotted around the field and reflecting on what it means to have the joy of God in our hearts.
Each child is the proud owner of a pilgrim passport which has gone with them on their travels around the country, on our CAFOD Big Walk – and some overseas! They have all been logged and stamped as lasting momentos of this wonderful Jubilee pilgrimage
Their Jubilee year continues to bring hope to the school and it has been a great way to take God’s love to the streets and share it with others.
And the colourful banners and flags which brought such joy to each class will now be brightening up the school hall long after the Jubilee Year of Hope is over.
