On Saturday 18th April, Canon Victor celebrated a Mass at St Philomena’s school chapel in Carshalton, during the Mass he baptised Daren king, a foundation governor at Richard Challoner School, and he also confirmed him, and gave him first holy communion. This begins the Catholic life of Daren.
At the same Mass, he formally received and welcomed Victoria Walker, deputy headteacher of St John fisher school, to the Catholic faith.
During the homily, Canon Victor stressed that our Catholic schools are places not just for pursuing academic education. “A Catholic school is at its best – when it becomes a place where Christ is encountered”.
The fact that members of staff now yearly come to faith through the RCIA programme for our schools, is a powerful testament that our schools are Christ centred and mission oriented. Since we started running this programme in our schools for 3 years now, about 15 non Catholic staff members of our different schools have embraced the Catholic faith.
