St Philomena’s Wins Virtual London Youth Games

19 schools took part in the inaugural virtual London Youth Games competition. This event ran for four weeks and offered a choice of three challenges per week, which were devised by young people from different London boroughs; tasks varied from specific sports skills, to endurance activities and dance. Some challenges asked for scores and others were measured purely according to participation levels for each borough.

Over the four weeks a total of 972 students from both primary and secondary schools in Sutton registered their participation and took on the various challenges. On the final leaderboard Sutton ended up 17th place out of 33 London boroughs! This was a great start to what will be the manner of competitions going into the autumn term.

The two winning schools with the most number of participants were St Philomena’s Catholic High School for Girls and All Saints Primary School, Carshalton.

St Philomena’s were awarded a plaque in September to celebrate our student’s achievements. All Key Stage 3 students were encouraged to participate by their PE teachers during the partial school closure to complete the activities over four weeks. Many of them enjoyed the extra challenge and won due to the high numbers of students participating.
